FOLKDRÄKT (FULL BODY KOPIMI ARMOR SUIT)

LINA PERSDOTTER-CARLSSON & SARA WOLFERT
FOLKDRÄKT (FULL BODY KOPIMI ARMOR SUIT)
2008

As the bus S23M set out on its journey through Europe, its inside immediately took the form of a ”multitude of workshops”. One of these worked intensely with ripped pieces of materials which were found, given or stolen along the way. Beginning with textiles, the crochet process gradually came to include also video tapes and other stuff that found its way into the bus. What had started as an abstract production, a way to fill a vast amount of hours on the road, took on its own particular direction: A folk costume for a potential Kopimi people, including a ceremonial sampling wand.
The artists recognized this as a moment of ”wearable feedback” – similar to how other workshops of the bus were simultaneously modifying text, sound and electronics. The suit was first used on performance artist Ollibolli, yet another passenger of the bus, as he played his music made by looping ripped pieces of sound, at Piratbyrån’s opening party outside Ex-Alumix at July 18th.
